Bonzi in Bondi
Bondi Beach Hostel Anna did an awesome job picking out this hostel. The location could not be any better. The hostel is literally only steps away from the legendary Bondi Beach and has an awesome rooftop terrace where we watched our first sunrise. It was amazing to see how much activity was happening on the beach before sun came up. Surfers, joggers, cross-fit, yoga, and couples going on a sunrise stroll were all a part of the vibrant morning beach scene.
Between Santiago and Sydney, there was a 13 hour time change. Needless to say, we haven't quite adjusted our internal clocks yet, and we were wide awake at 6am. After watching a beautiful sunrise from the rooftop, we were on a mission to find some coffee. Unfortunately, Sydney doesn't wake up until much later, and most businesses were still closed. After an hour of walking getting "familiar" with the surrounding area, we finally found a coffee shop that just opened. With coffee and hot chocolate in hand, we headed to the beach to watch the surfers catch some 3-6 foot waves.
Morning Yoga?
Bondi Backpackers had rooftop yoga which got rave reviews from others who have stayed there. Reviews said it was an easy and great calm start to your morning. No prior yoga experience required. Sounded perfect for us, as we were still struggling from the jet lag. Turns out, the normal girl who leads the yoga was gone, and left a sub in her place for the day. The sub was from France and did what we joked was "extreme yoga" and we weren't sure we would be able to walk the rest of the day!
Bondi to Cougee Beach Hike When we lived in Phoenix, we both really enjoyed hiking mountains that surrounded us. So doing the Bondi Beach to Cougee Beach walk was a very easy decision for us on our first full day in Australia. Before leaving, we packed a small picnic to bring with us for a small lunch. We started on our way, making our way along the path with many other tourists towards the Iceberg club. At the club, there is an awesome infinity pool, where the ocean waves crash into the side of the pool and overflow the pool with the cool salt water.
As we continued our walk, the further away from the Iceberg Club, more fellow tourists started to turn back. Which is too bad, considering that there are some awesome rock formations right along the path to explore. Up a hill and an ascent up some steep stairs, we found ourselves on top of a cliff. This is Mackenzie's Point with a beautiful panoramic view of Bondi Beach. This seems like a good place for our picnic.
The path continues to weave among the cliffs and through the many beaches on Sydney's east coast. All of which had surfers enjoying the waves. Finally, we stopped on top of a cliff over looking the ocean where the waves were smashing into the rocks and cliffs below us. We could see Wedding Cake Island in the distance, how appropriate for our honeymoon!
After finishing our picnic, and watching some young boys almost get swept away by the waves, it was time to head back to Bondi Beach. Upon reaching the beach, we took one more stroll along the beach before heading to an intimate Italian restaurant for dinner. After dinner, jet lag started to hit us hard, so we called it an early night.
